Larches Sport and Education Centre
Larches and Savick Amateur Boxing Club have established a provision aimed at supporting young people who, perhaps, are not motivated by mainstream education.
The name of this alternative provision is, ‘Larches Sports and Education Centre’ (LSEC.)
We work with partner schools in the area, both high schools and special schools, with the aim of engaging young people to both attend and gain some degree of success for their endeavours.
The 5 school days are broken down into 2 sessions:
A.M 9.30 -12.30
P.M 12.30 – 3.30
Pupils, together with parents/carers, and in conjunction with the school, can opt for up to 5 sessions per week (preferably a max of 1 per day) to attend LSEC.
During these 3 hour sessions of alternative provision, pupils can participate in activities, primarily relating to boxing and fitness, but these can be supplemented by barbering, photography and food technology.
All of these vocational activities are underpinned by English and maths and teaching sessions in both of these subject areas are an integral part of the learner’s day; we realise that accreditation in these 2 aspects of the curriculum is vital.
The teaching of English and maths is designed to support the work of the partner school; in effect, we prepare the learners for GCSE’s as well as AQA Functional Skills – Entry Level to Level 2. With regard to the vocational qualifications, the learners gain accreditation through the King’s Trust.
We feel, at LSEC, that matching the level of certification to the individual’s ability is key to future success as well as progress.
Further to this, our role at LSEC is to work in close cooperation with the partner school, therefore constant updates will be provided to the school regarding such matters as attendance and progress and we also liaise with parents and carers. Our firm belief is that a triangular structure supports the young person in their bid to achieve positive outcomes.
All curriculum areas are delivered by appropriately qualified staff in their subject area.
Safeguarding is of paramount importance to us at LSEC, so all staff have been through the pre requisite DBS checks and appropriate training, with a Designated Safeguarding Lead being on site at all times during the day.
