English and Maths
English and maths tutors are in daily attendance at LSEC. Both Katie and Liam (Promise Education) are highly skilled and experienced practitioners in both of these key and crucial academic areas.
Their backgrounds include both primary and secondary education and both have an ‘understanding of’ and an ‘empathy with’ the demands of these subjects together with working with S.E.N.D. learners over many years.
Their classes are organised on a 1:1 basis. This arrangement provides the learner with confidence, whilst at the same time reducing anxiety. Lessons, as stated earlier, are taught on a daily basis with a duration of 30-40 mins.
Most importantly, the lessons are designed to meet the demands of the individual learner and specific to their needs – it may be GCSE preparation or, Entry Level accreditation.

Photography
Again, those participating in photography will have the opportunity to complete a series of tasks that will lead to AQA Unit Awards. With an emphasis, but not exclusively, on sports photography our learners can develop their photography skills in both still and moving aspects of the subject. Other factors that our tutor, Gemma Kilshaw, will concentrate on are lighting, shutter speed, editing in Lightroom/photoshop as well as studio work.
The projects set will include graphics work as this will allow the learners to create flyers, posters and much, much more!
Not only will these skills lead to certificates but we will certainly be using the photos to promote Larches Sports and Education Centre!

Barbering
This takes place in our specially designed barber’s salon. Under the tuition of our fully qualified barber/hairdresser, Nitesh Maru, our learners have the opportunity to have a hands on experience of completing relevant and worthwhile tasks. Our young people have the opportunity to learn all about cutting, fades, shaping and and tapering amongst a whole host of other skills.
All of the completed tasks are recorded and this leads to the learner potentially achieving a series of AQA Unit Awards.

Food
The emphasis will be on relating diet to sports performance but, many other areas will be concentrated upon. What can be included in a high protein diet to maximise performance? Are carbohydrates from certain foods more beneficial than others? All of these questions will be answered to ensure that you perform at your best in the gym.
Becky Schorah, our tutor, will lead you through all of the complexities of preparing food on a 1:1 basis, including all hygiene considerations. The focus really is on our learners making meals from start to finish – a real hands on experience!.
Yet again, learners will be working towards AQA Unit Awards but, even better, they will be able to enjoy the meals that they have meticulously prepared!

Fitness and Boxing
Fitness at LSEC provides the learners with the opportunities to improve physical health, discipline and teamwork whilst boxing aspect builds self-confidence, focus and resilience. Together, our programmes promote overall well-being and encourage lifelong habits relating to staying healthy. Our programmes also enhance mental health, teach goal setting and create pathways for athletic and personal development. This all leads to individual learners gaining accreditation through the King’s Trust Programme.
All of this is based in our superb gym which consists of multiple fitness apparatus together with a full size boxing ring. Further to this, tuition is provided by our qualified staff, with one member of staff a level 3 Great Britain coach.
